Photo Works was established in july 1996. Initially the organisation was named as The Cross-Channel Photographic Mission (CCPM), by Kent County Council. Photo Works was awarded its first major lottery grant in 1998, which was held by the University of Brighton, with Marysia Lewandowska and Neil Cummings.
